Plus-Size Male Models Recreate Calvin Klein Ad

Today’s generation of trendsetters and tastemakers have agreed that big is beautiful. The body positive movement has reached bounds, with fashion labels embracing all shapes and sizes. And although women have remained the face of the movement (yas, Ashley Graham), plus size men still face the stigma as well.

The big boys of fashion have steadily become more visible within the industry. In 2016, IMG launched the Brawn division, dedicated to representing male models with larger bodies. Actor and model, Daniel Franzese recently launched the Winston Box, a plus-sized menswear subscription service. And just this season on America’s Next Top Model, Tyra had the contestants posing with some big and beautiful boys, including Zach Miko.

#WeareBigAndTall is a project I wanted to bring to life to shed some light on the under representation & misconceptions of plus male models. My mission is to represent & show what the Big&Tall Man are all about. . Because we’re Big&Tall, it doesn’t mean we’re not capable of doing the things a industry standard size model can do or that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities. Doesn’t mean we’re not worthy of proper representation or respect in society or be fairly represented in the fashion industry, because guess what? We wear clothes and have killer style too! Our appearance, height, body, size & shape should not be seen as “outside the norm. No more society or industry standards. I mean, who even set the standard? . I’m not here to be “The Standard”. I’m here to go against the norms of life and the industry by simply being me, not a mold. To show and inspire people to love themselves and make there dreams a reality, amongst all the criticisms and “No’s”. Anything is possible & I’m a walking example of it. – @dghramm 📸: @tonytrottphoto . . #celebratemysize #goldenconfidence #effyourbeautystandards #bodypositive #plussize #plussizefashion #plussizemodel #honormycurves #plussizeblogger #bigandtall #bigandtallfashion #plussizemalemodel #brawn #bigandtallmodel #mensfashion #menswear #menstyle #mensstyle #fashionblogger #styleblogger #model #antm #styleandcurve #hypebeaststyle #fashionbombmen #statemgmt #drmartens #drmartensstyle #liveinlevis

Model, Darnel Ghramm has recently launched #WeAreBigAndTall, a project devoted to highlighting plus-size male models.

“Because we’re big and tall, it doesn’t mean we’re not capable of doing the things an industry standard size model can do or that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities,” Ghramm says in an Instagram post. “Doesn’t mean we’re not worthy of proper representation or respect in society or to be fairly represented in the fashion industry, because guess what? We wear clothes and have killer style too! Our appearance, height, body, size, and shape should not be seen as ‘outside the norm.’ No more society or industry standards. I mean, who even set the standard?”

To launch the project, he collaborated with photographer, Tony Trott, and some plus-size pals, including Rob Robinson, Arcadio Ady Del Valle, and Miguel Rodriguez. Together, they recreated recent Calvin Klein ad, starring A$AP Rocky and friends. And although the original is pretty sexy, it’s safe to say the plus-size version makes us want to slip into their Calvins.

Trust me when I say, “Believe in your f*cking self & you’ll be unstoppable!” What you think of yourself is way more important then what they think of you. So be mindful of your self talk, be good to yourself. Encourage yourself the same way you encourage others, your worth it. – @dghramm #wearebigandtall .
