A ‘Charmed’ Reboot With A Lesbian Witch? This Is The Future Liberals Want

· Updated on May 28, 2018

I thought I was above being pandered to, and then I read over on NewNowNext that there’s a Charmed reboot in the works that will feature a lesbian witch in a relationship with another woman. Please, continue to pander to me like this until the day that I die.

According to a casting announcement obtained by TVLine, the new trio of witches replacing Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell (I didn’t watch the Paige years don’t @ me) are Macy, Mel, and Madison, “three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.”

According to her character breakdown, middle sister Mel Pruitt is: “A strong-willed feminist, she feels deeply and is a bit controlling. Melwho is in her mid 20s and a lesbianis the sister of Madison. In the wake of a tragic accident, the grieving Mel becomes angry, defiantly unkempt, even violent, pushing away those who might help her, including her girlfriend, Detective Soo Jin. Mel’s power is time-freezing.”

That’s right, Mel has a girlfriend! She’s not coming out or grappling with her newly realized sexuality. She’s living her long-established lesbian life! So, not only do we have a lesbian lead, but we’ll have a second queer female character in a recurring role, at least! Considering how few lesbian characters there are on broadcast TVGLAAD counted only 21 regular and recurring lesbian characters in the 2016-17 seasonthis is pretty cool.

Here’s hoping they don’t bury their gays!
