Adam Rippon Skips White House Party, Plans LGBTQ Community Event Instead

· Updated on May 28, 2018

Adam Rippon has chosen not to send his RSVP to the White House.

According to a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Rippon will forego a White House-sponsored reception for Team USA. Rather, the bronze medal winner said he will go to an LGBTQ fundraiser to protest the administration’s homophobia.

“I have no desire to go to the White House,” Rippon told the Mail. “But I would like to do something to help my community.”

He added, “I have kind of spoken out a lot and I’d I like to do something positive and not just stay at home.”

Rippon said that, rather than hobnobbing with the Trump administration, he will plan some kind of event in opposition to homophobia.

Rippon is famously feuding with vice president Pence due to the politician’s long-standing disregard for LGBTQ people. He refused to meet Pence, the White House ambassador to the Olympics, because of his support of gay conversion therapy.

Since his initial comment, Mike Pence has tried to backtrack and say he doesn’t hate gay people but Rippon hasn’t bought it.
