The time has come: We’re one day out from Ariana Grande’s new album, Sweetener. As excited as I am, it also means her press tour is coming to a close.
If she wasn’t a professional singer, Ariana Grande could be a professional talk show guest — she’s perfect for it. She has great rapport with the different hosts, her knack for impressions is endlessly entertaining, and she’s not just a performer, but a fun person to be around.
This “Carpool Karaoke” episode from The Late Late Show with James Corden utilizes all of those things to make the most perfect Ariana guest appearance. From the get-go, Ariana knows exactly what the audience wants from “Carpool Karaoke” — great vocals. Some singers, who will remain nameless, simply sing over their songs and it’s boring. Ariana acts like she is her own backup vocalist and she’s trying to overshadow herself. She is giving the gays every riff in the book and it’s wonderful.
She also mentions being inspired by Beyoncé and other divas, she does her iconic Celine Dion impression, and at a certain point the duo get out of the car and interact with some bystanders. It’s a great video and probably the best “Carpool Karaoke” episode ever.
