When it comes to social security, Senator Bernie Sanders defers to Ms. Red Bottoms herself.
On Wednesday, non-profit organization Social Security Works tweeted out a photo of Bronx-born rapper and new queer icon Cardi B alongside a quote of hers about President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who first created the social security system as a social welfare safety net for elderly Americans.

“He’s the real ‘Make America Great Again’ president,” Cardi B’s quote reads. “Because if it wasn’t for him, older Americans wouldn’t even get social security.”
After the organization quoted queen Cardi, the tweet got a signal boost from none other than 2016 presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Cardi B is right. If we are really going to make America great we need to strengthen Social Security so that seniors are able to retire with the dignity they deserve. https://t.co/B8cOkoOdLc

“Cardi B is right,” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “If we are really going to make America great we need to strengthen Social Security so that seniors are able to retire with the dignity they deserve.”
Plenty of people in the comments were loving this political crossover event. While others felt the whole thing came across a little “how do you do, fellow kids?”
Either way, it’s official: Bernie Sanders is part of the Bardi Gang and Cardi B is now our national consultant on social welfare and entitlement programs.
