Cakes Da Killa On Sex, Rap and Trump

Today we launch the second part of a three-part series called “Chi Sessions” that documents the inspiring lives and thoughts of Mykki Blanco, Cakes Da Killa, and Young Assata three LGBTQ-identifying musicians.

It’s a visceral and beautiful series exploring the complications of being hip-hop artists, black and queer and how their experiences living on the intersections of these identities is nothing like the stereotypes try to depict.

“In the LGBTQ community we do kind of…sometimes have little isms,” rapper Cakes da Killa says in the film when talking about community divisions. “Y’know like ‘no fats, no femmes’; it’s not this whole rainbow world where we all love each other.”

And his interview doesn’t stop there, but touches on how people have just recently become ‘woke’ due to the rise of Trumpism and how that felt like a slap in the face.
