Every once in a while, a bop comes along that reads you for filth and then cuddles you afterward as you marathon binge Netflix and scarf down Trader Joe’s Kitchen Sink Dunkers. Carly Rae Jepsen has given us that song.
After teasing “Party for One” on social media yesterday, Jepsen returned to the music scene for the first time since 2017’s “Cut to the Feeling” with a hopped-up ode to being alone and an accompanying music video.
The video features a blonde Jepsen, as well as a host of other people, renting hotel rooms as places to get away from the rest of the world. One of the people in the video is choreographer Mark Kanemura, who performed on stage with Jepsen after his lip-syncing videos of “Cut to the Feeling” and other songs went viral earlier this year.
But let’s get it straight: this is a song about my life. Very very often, instead of joining people out in the world, I stay in bed and have several parties for one in a row. “Party for One” is definitely an earworm — there’s already a corner of Twitter that won’t stay quiet about it — but if you ask me, Amy Adams’ song “Me Party” from The Muppets did it first!
