Christina Aguilera Releases Her First Single in Six Years

· Updated on May 29, 2018

Well, it looks like Christina Aguilera wasn’t lying when she teased new music while appearing onDrag Racerecently.

For the first time in six years, the queen of rock candy vocals has blessed us with a new track. “Accelerate” is a pretty big departure for Aguilera and according to an interview for Billboard, other songs on the album will be similar. Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz are featured on the new track and Kanye West is producing some songs on the forthcoming album.

“To me, there’s nothing like an amazing hip-hop beat,” Aguilera told Billboard. Later in the interview she goes on to say that back in the early 2000s, she felt very confined by her label and this album is an effort to strip away from that era.

The video for “Accelerate” is strong evidence that Aguilera is looking to make a new statement. Rather than a more extravagant pop opening, it opens with black and white video of her wearing simple clothing and makeup. Although there are more colorful scenes, there’s nothing as large as her early 2000s music videos like “Dirrty.”

Folks on Twitter are a bit confused, but seem to generally like the song. Some fans, though, are less convinced.

Christina Aguilera’s new album, Liberation, will be released on June 15th. In the mean time, you can watch her new video below.
