‘Drag Race’ Is Headed to the UK with RuPaul as Host

As Britney Spears would say in a quasi-British accent, “Go call the police, go call the governor!”

RuPaul’s Drag Race will take its Emmy-winning formula across the pond to the UK and air on the BBC, according to a press release. The show will debut on BBC Three — which, as an American, I assume is a channel — in 2019.

“It is a dream come true to extend our royal family to the United Kingdom with our partners at BBC Three,” RuPaul said in a statement. “I am beyond excited to celebrate the massive charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent of the Queen’s queens. And before anyone asks, yes, we would be thrilled to have Meghan Markle join us, as we are already preparing a ‘Royal-Mother-To-Be’ runway challenge.”

According to the press release, the format of the show will be extremely similar to the current US version.

The press release did not confirm whether any of the current judging panel — Ross Matthews, Michelle Visage and Carson Kressley — would join the show’s latest iteration. Visage is currently in London appearing in the West End drag-themed musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, the story of a 16-year-old boy who wants to be a drag queen.

You can peep Visage’s turn as a schoolteacher in the clip below, at about the 4:30 mark.

No word yet on whether any UK queens who have competed on the show previously will be allowed to compete, but we’re sure Charlie Hides is warming up her vocals.
