Say “Goodbye!” to bisexual erasure and “Hello!” to a queer Wonder Woman.
While the first Wonder Woman film saw Amazon princess Diana Prince lock lips with Chris Pine (Evans? Hemsworth? Pratt? Who knows??), a new Change.org petition is hoping that the next film can explore a more Sapphic aspect of the titular superhero the fact that she loves more than one gender.
“The Wonder Woman franchise is the embodiment of strength and resilience in a genre that places women as the sidekick more often than the hero,” the petition’s writer, Gianna Collier-Pitts, wrote. “The bar is already so low when it comes to celebrating women and LGBTQ characters in a positive way, and I am tired of grasping at straws in an effort to see myself represented.”
For those who might be thinking that the petition is grasping at straws, that’s not the case. Wrap your lasso of truth around this: Wonder Woman being queer is actually canon.

In a September 2016 interview with Comicosity, DC comics writer Greg Rucka confirmed with a simple “yes” that the superhero is indeed queer.
“Are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? As Nicola and I approach it, the answer is obviously yes,” Rucka said.
The official call for Diana to be accurately represented as bisexual is a part of GLAAD’s #BiWeek 2017 campaign, which “seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bi+ (pansexual, fluid, no label, queer, etc.) community.”
As of press time, the petition had over 1700 signatures and counting.
