Dressed to Impress

Watch a twink prepare to go back in time and seduce King James

Bridgerton Season 3 is upon us, and while that show deals with the scandals and heartbreaks of a group of courtly nobles in the 1800s, it’s making us reflect on the possibilities of other stylish centuries getting the Bridgerton treatment.

For instance: why aren’t there more Jacobean dramas? That’s the question a well-known and deeply stylish twink recently asked on TikTok, where he posts fabulously retro style content under the account @pinsent_tailoring.

If you haven’t come across this account…let me just say that you’re missing out. If Period P*rn is your thing—the kind where people dress up as characters from other eras, not the…other kind—you’ll love what this “period tailor” is putting down. Equipped with vintage pieces from all eras—often in stunningly mint condition—this creator treats viewers to GRWM-style videos that show what it might be like for a member of the gentry from the 1600s and 1700s to start his day. And in a recent video, he’s on a very specific historical mission. The objective? Seduce King James I, the creator of the King James Bible and a man whose bisexual exploits are now the subject of the Nicholas Galitzine vehicle Mary & George.

So how does one prepare to seduce the King? Well, it’s simple, really. You just slip out of your large, billowy nightdress and into a series of cool, comfy Jacobean garments. And then you strut your stuff, hunty!

Obviously we could watch an entire series that’s just gay people getting dressed throughout the centuries…but until the History Channel decides to take their job seriously and commission such a thing, we’ll have to rely on the Period Tailor to scratch that particular itch. And I have a strong suspicion that his channel might soon be giving us more LGBTQ+ goodness in the form of couples content. Because our man just got engaged to the love of his life, at a Regency Ball, dressed to the nines, natch.

It just goes to show that love is love, no matter the century.
