After more than a decade of existence, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now acknowledging that queer people exist — hooray! In an interview with The Playlist, Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed that fans would be seeing LGBTQ characters in Marvel’s future.
Feige said that these would be both characters we’ve seen before and new characters to the franchise. But if you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War then you know that the state of the MCU is kind of up in the air at the moment. With that in mind, it might be a little while until we see any of this queer representation.
Most likely we’ll see Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson) appear as openly bisexual, as we already know there was a deleted scene in Thor: Ragnarok that confirmed as much.
In addition, Feige also said that the MCU will be adding more female heroes to its roster. In an interview with Screen Rant, he said that it’s likely the female heroes will soon outweigh the number of male heroes.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I think we’re getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male. It’s just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women,” Feige said.
