Hollywood, Cast Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson as Girlfriends ASAP

Both Tessa Thompson and Gina Rodriguez have expressed interest on Twitter in starring in a film together where they could play girlfriends and I. Am. Here. For. It.

The whole thing started with a tweet from user @dinahxfelicity, who used shots of the two actresses hanging out to show just how much their ~chemistry~ would lend itself to an amazing queer romance.

If that tweet weren’t enough, both Thompson and Rodriguez responded on Twitter that they would be down!

Thompson and Rodriguez will appear together in the upcoming film Annihilation which has a pretty awesome trailer.

But, back to the matter at hand, we don’t care what the script has: it can be a rom com where they both work in magazine publishing, or there can be zombies or petticoats or geostorms, it doesn’t matter. Somebody cast these two together. Now.

Though neither Rodriguez or Thompson have come out as queer, Rodriguez has said that she doesn’tlabel her sexuality.

“I don’t need anyone to define their sexuality to me nor do I feel the need to either,” Rodriguez once responded to a fan who asked if she was straight. “I love hearts. Period.”

Battle of the Sexes currently holds the record for widest release for a lesbian-themed movie, but I think this Rodriguez-Thompson cinematic triumph can have it beat. Besides, if we’ve learned anything from Rihanna, Lupita N’yongo and Ava DuVernay, it’s that Twitter can make films happen if there’s enough of a push and the talent is there.
