MUNA’s Josette Maskin got a buzz cut, and the fandom is in shambles

When MUNA took the stage for G*ve a F*ck LA’s wildfire benefit concert Wednesday night, fans were treated to more than just a showcase of some of the band’s biggest songs: They saw guitarist Josette Maskin’s new buzz cut for the first time.

Though Maskin had previously been known for their head of curls (or “jurls,” as fans affectionately called them), they’ve bid their hair ado and apparently picked up a razor instead. Fans across social media aren’t sure what to make of the situation: Maskin still looks amazing, of course, but the change was a shock to the MUNA fandom’s system.

One fan aptly referred to the situation as when Harry Styles buzzed his hair “but for lesbians,” and we’re inclined to agree — though Styles’ buzz cut was kind of a traumatic day for lesbians, too.

Maskin wasn’t the only MUNA member sporting a new do. Naomi McPherson also debuted a cropped mullet, which generated its own share of social media buzz.

Could the new looks mean a new album is coming soon? It’s been three years since the band’s last project, the self-titled album MUNA, and in the meantime lead singer Katie Gavin released their own solo project, What A Relief. It’s about time the band got back together, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll cook up next.

At G*ve a F*ck LA, MUNA performed acoustic versions of “I Know A Place” and “Silk Chiffon.” Check out the band’s performance below.
