It’s Official: Beyoncé Declares Support for Beto O’Rourke

The queen has spoken.

One of the most important endorsements a Texan can get is from Houston native Beyoncé Knowles. And that endorsement has gone to Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke, the national sensation who, though he might lag in polls behind Republican incumbent Ted Cruz, has captured the imagination (and hearts) of the nation.

Knowles shared her support for O’Rourke in 3(!!) Instagram posts on Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m feeling grateful for everyone before me who fought so hard to give us all the right to have a voice. We can’t voice our frustrations and complain about what’s wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right. We need you. We all need each other, because when we are truly united we are unstoppable. Sending you all love and positivity on this happy voting day!” Beyoncé wrote. “Every vote counts. Every race matters. Everywhere.”

Several people tweeted how happy they were to see the queen voice support for the Democratic candidate.

A quick search on Twitter shows that many people were wondering ifBeyoncé would speak about the much-covered Texas race in the days leading up to the election. Beyoncé has previously given support to Democratic candidates. She infamously headlined, along with her husband, a concert in Ohio in support of Hillary Clinton the night before the 2016 election.

Some people have criticized Beyoncé in the past for not speaking up about Texas politics. In 2015, some people hoped she would speak out in support of the equal rights ordinance HERO in her hometown of Houston, which was up for vote again on the ballot. Beyoncé chose not to post anything political on her social media about HERO at the time, which garnered her some criticism, while some people felt Beyonce didn’t owe anyone an endorsement.

With a few hours left at the Texas polls, let’s see if the Lemonade auteur can push O’Rourke over the line.
