Kate McKinnon Thanks Hillary Clinton After Second Consecutive Emmys Win

· Updated on May 28, 2018

Gay lady win! Kate McKinnon took home the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work this past television season on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

Fighting back tears from the moment she heard her name, McKinnon marched her way down the aisle and up onto the Microsoft Theater stage.

“Yikes,” she said.

Finding her words, McKinnon went on to thank SNL writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, her mother, and her sister, among others. One of those others was Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate responsible for so much of McKinnon’s award-winning material.

“On a very personal note, I want to say thank you to Hillary Clinton for your grace and grit,” she said.

This is McKinnon’s second consecutive Emmy win and her fourth consecutive nomination for her work on SNL. She was up again fellow SNL cast members Leslie Jones and Vanessa Bayer, as well as Veep’s Anna Chlumsky and Transparent’s Judith Light and Kathryn Hahn.

Along with being SNL’s first publicly out lesbian cast member, McKinnon is also SNL’s first cast member to win an award in any of the Emmys major acting categories.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go try and track down the Instagram account for Kate’s “LA moms,” Fern and Suze. I bet it’s a couple’s Instagram. Filled with photos of the heirloom tomatoes they grow in their backyard. I’m already stanning.
