Netflix’s flagship teen drama 13 Reasons Why is finally coming back for Season 2.
The long-awaited sequel season comes more than a year after the original season aired. In a brand-new teaser trailer, many of the beloved characters appear, set to make a return on May 18, clad with an ominous tagline, “The tapes were just the beginning.”
Noticeably absent from the teaser are Justin, played by queer fave Brandon Flynn, who has been photographed getting cuddly with crooner Sam Smith, Alex Standall (Miles Heizer), and the show’s gay characters Ryan Shaver (Tommy Dorfman), and Courtney Crimson (Michele Selene Ang). However, the out and proud Tony Padilla (Christian Navarro) makes an appearance.
Last year, the controversial show spurred a nationwide discussion on teen suicide, and how it’s handledor should be handledin pop culture. In March, Netflix announced that they will be adding a warning video to Season 2, as well as adding resources to 13ReasonsWhy.info, with cast discussions on bullying, sexual assault, and drug abuse.
It’ll be interesting to see what direction the show goes in this seasonand what conversations it’ll inspire.
