Russell Tovey Poses in Cape and Undies for HIV Charity Painting

British actor Russell Tovey is known for his good looks. His unmistakable ears and boyish charm have won us over with roles in Looking and Quantico. They even recently nabbed him a hunky rugby-playing fiancé in Steve Brockman.

Now, Tovey is using those good looks for a good cause. He recently posted a very interesting painting to Instagram, which he posed for. Painted by Christopher Garrington, it features Tovey in nothing but tighty-whities, a green cape, and a blue mask, sporting his best superhero pose.

“The subject of this painting, Russell Tovey, is one of the UK’s best known actors – he has starred in a diverse range of films, television shows and theatre productions,” says the description of the painting. “Currently working in America, he recently played the role of The Ray, a gay superhero who openly kissed a fellow gay superhero on Crisis on Earth-X. Shown on a prime American television channel, this scene gained much public admiration. This image was painted from a sitting with the artist to demonstrate that whatever your sexuality, childhood dreams of becoming a superhero are possible.”

Luckily for us, this painting can come home to hang right above our beds. It’s currently up for auction to benefit the HIV charity, the Terrence Higgins Trust. It’s set to be auctioned off Monday, having already received at least 10 bids.

Tovey is also known as a patron of the arts. His Instagram followers are familiar with photos of him and his French bulldog, Rocky taking in some of the museums and galleries in New York and around the world.
