Ryan Murphy’s FX Drama ‘Pose’ Drops Vogue-Heavy Trailer, Premiere Date

Get ready to strike a pose.

Pose, the FX drama from Ryan Murphy which boasts the largest cast of transgender actors on TV, finally has a release date. Those wishing to make the show must-see TV can finally watch the show on Sunday, June 3rd.

The show released its premiere date along with a 90-second trailer.

“I am encouraged to be all the things that the outside world would think of as a ‘freak,’” a character says at the top of the trailer. The trailer emphasizes the outsider street kid culture of New York in the 1980s.

The trailer shows several characters discussing the varied nature of the ball scene: what it means to be a part of the community, to compete and to feel glamorous. The clip intersperses vintage 1980s filters with high-definition modern camera shots.

In January, Murphy told television critics that he’s “always loved Paris is Burning” and wanted to bring it to screen but wanted to do more than a fictionalized version of those characters’ lives. Then got Steven Canals’ script. Canals is a Bronx born and raised queer Afro Latino who wrote Pose while in an MFA screenwriting program.

“I’d spent years in and out of executive offices being told that this script was too niche and that there wasn’t an audience for it, and ‘Where would a show like this live?'” Canals said of the script. Murphy was able to get Pose a shot at FX.

With Pose set to start off Pride Month, expect June this year to be queerer than ever.
