Here’s a completely normal way to spend your weekend.
On Friday, Taylor Swift released her Hot Topic-influenced album Reputation, the first since her 2014 album 1989. If you follow Swift on Instagram, you’d definitely have known it was release weekend, as Swift spent the whole weekend tweeting out custom-bordered memes featuring reviews from major outlets, including the New York Times, Rolling Stone and Billboard.
Most were accompanied by a terse “Thank you” and heart emoji.
OK, real talk: do not normalize this behavior. As BuzzFeed recently wrote, Swift’s persona is almost anathema to 2017, a time of political upheaval and collective action. Spending an entire weekend posting positive reviews to IG and holding a snake-covered microphone on SNL just shows that Swift is determined to make the conversation 100% about Taylor Swift.
