Everybody get back on their Pride floats, because we have to start over: We need to celebrate the fact that Nintendo has put Princess Daisy into the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch.
After years of my own personal activism on the subject, I’m happy to rejoice with the gay community in the fact that our underrated Princess is finally being appreciated.
The news came early on Tuesday, June 12th, during Nintendo’s E3 announcement stream. After Nintendo said that every single character in Smash history would be returning, they named Daisy as an additional fighter. Unfortunately, she won’t be completely original — she’ll be what Nintendo is now calling an “echo” fighter, meaning that her moves will be similar to Princess Peach’s, like how Lucina plays like March, or Dark Pit like Pit.

Despite that, I am still thrilled, and so is the rest of the internet.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch on December 7th, 2018. Keep a look out as Nintendo is sure to announce more new characters as that date gets closer. Hopefully, that list will also include more gay icons.
