The Wait Is Over

Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ music videos are finally coming as part of her concert film

Renaissance is coming to a movie theater near you, and it’s promising more than just concert footage.

At the end of the final show of her Renaissance World Tour in Kansas City, Beyoncé announced Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, a concert film charting the journey of her record-breaking album and accompanying tour. Check out the trailer below.

Per reporting by Variety, the concert film will feature all things Renaissance, including behind-the-scenes footage of recording the album and rehearsing for the tour (with fan favorite dancers like Honey Balenciaga and Beyoncé’s own daughter, Blue Ivy Carter), highlights from the 50-show run of the Renaissance World Tour from Stockholm to Kansas City, and — brace yourself — a look at the music videos for Renaissance’s visual album.

Yes, those visuals. The visuals Beyoncé teased in a YouTube video more than a year ago. The visuals demanded in thousands of bewildered posts from the BeyHive. Queen Bey once said on stage, “You are the visuals, baby,” and it looks like she had a few more in her back pocket.

Though the visual album was reportedly completed and ready for release as early as November of last year, Beyoncé has kept fans waiting with only fleeting screenshots of some soon-to-be-iconic looks to tide them over. Now, at long last, the Hive can enjoy the visuals — or at least as much of them as Beyoncé chooses to include in the film. Fans are speculating that a full visual album rollout will come after the concert film. As always with Beyoncé, patience is a virtue.

To say fans are excited is an understatement, particularly to see that the movie isn’t Act II of Beyoncé’s mysterious three-act project. That means much more Beyoncé is still to come, even as the Renaissance era is keeping us fed.

Beyoncé also took a page from Taylor Swift’s book in distributing the film. Following the model Swift brokered with AMC Theatres in August for her own concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Beyoncé self-financed the film and dealt directly with movie theaters, meaning she’ll see more than 50% of gross from box office sales.

Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé hits U.S. theaters including AMC, Regal, and Cinemark on December 1. Tickets are available for pre-sale now.
