The gays are fighting over this pop star ranking and it’s messy

Did your fav make the top of this pop star ranking?

It almost feels like a gay right of passage to name your favorite female pop star and stan them like your life depends on it. If you ask any self-respecting queer person, they’ll be quick to dish on why their fave is the next coming of Jesus and why you need to dive into their discography immediately. And don’t let someone tell them that their pop star isn’t creme de la creme, as a battle will ensue.

But let’s be real, stan wars will continue to rage on and thanks to this ranked list, the gays are fighting again. X/Twitter user @Mar_Adkins shared one of the most polarizing images of today’s pop star with descriptions about their place in the pop echelon. With the caption “Uhm this 2024 version I don’t know what to feel,” the post certainly made the gays feel some things.

So let’s dive in.

The image features several pop divas in different groups, like the “legends” (where Mariah Carey, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, and Kylie Minogue reside), “queens” (featuring Taylor Swift, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Shakira), and “new girls” (which consists of Tyla, Ice Spice, and Victoria Monét). Nothing that all of the gays can’t agree on, right?

Well, then you have a few more “niche” categories, if you will. For example, British superstar Dua Lipa received the label “can’t get a #1.” Interestingly, that’s only true if you look at U.S. music charts, as Dua has a few number ones under her belt in the U.K.

Speaking of numbers ones, there’s the dynamic duo of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga under the label “queens but can’t get a solo #1 since Obama presidency.” Then there’s the crew that “has couple hits,” like SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Lorde, and Lizzo. And for the gays with “taste,” their faves were located in the “underrated but popular on twitter” category, which includes folks like Jessie Ware, Amaarae, Tinashe, Kelela, and Charli XCX.

But Dua wasn’t the only queen in her own lane. Rihanna is “queen but won’t release new album,” while Beyoncé, well, Beyoncé was rightfully labeled “Beyoncé.” While the list isn’t all encompassing, it was enough to set the internet ablaze. Now, all of the gays are up in arms about the list’s results.

So, where did your fav land?
