What a wild ride. Euphoria’s second season has been all anyone could talk about for the past eight weeks. Now, after last night’s episode, “All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned For A Thing I Cannot Name,” the season has come to a close. And in true Euphoria fashion, the finale was a chaotic disaster.
It kicked off where we left off, with Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) storming the stage at Lexi’s play. I can’t say I’m surprised — Cassie has been a damn mess for all 8 episodes.
the way cassie hit a new low every single episode of s2 like that’s INSANE…

the spotlight handler is messy they saw cassie walking up and said this is where the show is 😭

Cassie saying she’ll gladly be the villain just before getting her ass whooped on stage in front of the whole school
— melv. (@manizegos) February 28, 2022
But Lexi (Maude Apatow) has been messy too! Her play included graphic details from her classmates’ lives, including scenes she wasn’t even present for. Was Lexi even at the carnival in Season 1?
now how lexi know about the carousel scene?!

Cassie was quickly chased offstage by Maddy (Alexa Demie), who FINALLY got a little bit of revenge for everything that’s happened to her this season. Watching her slam Cassie into that brick wall was … *chef’s kiss.*
it’s so funny to me. pic.twitter.com/6leywX4IK0

Then there’s the whole situation with Fez, Faye and Ashtray. Thank goodness Faye (Chloe Cherry) finally took some action against her dickwad boyfriend, warning Fez (Angus Cloud) to stay silent and trying to frame Laurie for Mouse’s murder.
The way Faye lowkey had a great plan to pin everything on Laurie. Would’ve solved half of everyone’s problems 😭

faye my sister i’ve never said anything anything nasty about her!
— zae | industry plant (@ItsZaeOk) February 28, 2022
I knew Faye wasn’t gon let me down I know a real btch when I see one lol even if they look a lil funny.

But it was in vain, unfortunately, because Ashtray (Javon “Wanna” Walton) can’t seem to stop murdering people. Look, I get where he was coming from killing Faye’s boyfriend — he didn’t know that they were being tapped — but why did he hunker down in that bathtub with all the firearms?? WHY’D HE GET HIMSELF KILLED???
ASHTRAY WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT #Euphoria #EuphoriaHBOMax pic.twitter.com/Z06B4s7GUi

And of course, it’s not the episode’s biggest tragedy, but Fez never made it to Lexi’s play. I’m still rooting for Fexi, but it might be hard considering Fez is no doubt gonna face some repercussions from this finale.

The real reason this episode felt like a mess is the misallocation of time. There were a million loose ends that didn’t get tied up — but sure, let’s devote a solid five minutes to Elliott (Dominic Fike) singing Rue (Zendaya) a little song. I get it, it’s Dominic Fike! He has a great voice! But don’t we have a plot to get to?

I know Rue was battling the urge to walk out on Elliot mid-song cause MY GOODNESS

They saying Elliot was singing for 2 hours….

Meanwhile, lots of the season’s plot lines seemed to vanish into thin air. What happened to Rue’s failed deal with Laurie? And that $10,000 suitcase of drugs she lost?
glad rue clean but she might wanna start hitting the streets cuz she still owe that lady some money…
— zae | industry plant (@ItsZaeOk) February 28, 2022
Obsessed with rue losing thousands of dollars worth of drugs and the storyline just said “🤷🏽”
— lains (@fevrier2nd) February 28, 2022
Whack.. Laurie should’ve been waiting for rue outside
— Shy (@shysmith) February 28, 2022
These problems have plagued Euphoria all season, but they felt extra egregious in this episode knowing how long we’ll have to wait for Season 3. Given Zendaya’s busy filming schedule for other projects, we might not see more Euphoria until the end of 2023 or even later.
“jules was my first love id like to remember it that way i stayed clean for the rest of the school year” yeahhhh season 3 is definitely a time jump omgggg
— cay (@koralinadean) February 28, 2022
i liked… the collection of scenes this finale was… but i feel like we got no closure to any storyline… at all? and like not in a good way in a very unsatisfying way
— not j*ss (@itsnotjess123) February 28, 2022
WAAAAIT A MINUTE SO WHAT HAPPENED TO FEZ??? DO LEXI AND RUE KNOW?????? WHAT DOES RUE MEAN “I stayed clean for the rest of the school year” DID SHE NOT STAY SOBER??? WHAT HAPPENED WITH MADDY AND CASSIE??? WHAT ABOUT LAURIE’S MONEY??? IVE GOT QUESTIONS
— bell⋆ (@spiderlingdaya) February 28, 2022
obviously euphoria was gonna get renewed for a season three but some plot points not getting a resolution is still so annoying omg
— zae | industry plant (@ItsZaeOk) February 28, 2022
For all the show’s faults, I will miss commiserating about it with the entire Internet every Sunday night. Goodbye, Euphoria Day. You served us well.
