It’s Official: This Jurassic Park Character is Bisexual

Here at INTO, as you may have noticed, we’re devoted to ruining enhancing all your childhood favorites by explaining that they’re all either gay, trans, or both. Well welcome to Monday, because today we learned that a character from the upcoming installment in the never-ending Jurassic Park franchise.

DeWanda Wise, of Netflix’s “She’s Gotta Have It” and The Harder They Fall, confirmed in a recent interview with Comicbook.com that her upcoming character in Jurassic World Dominion—pilot Kayla Wattsis bisexual.

“It’s important, and it’s also important to me that we continue to expand the conversation beyond looking for the kiss,” she explained. “If you’re queer, you’re queer…I said what I said. All the time. You don’t turn it off. It doesn’t matter if your partner’s in the cockpit with you. It just is a statement of being.”

But don’t get too excited: a few years ago, when Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was about to come out (lol), one character was kept conspicuously in the closet. A single line that would have outed the character Zia Rodriguez as queer was cut, as it so often is.

But Wise has some salient points to make about why her character’s queerness can’t be erased.

“It’s important, and it’s also important to me that we continue to expand the conversation beyond looking for the kiss,” Wise said. “If you’re queer, you’re queer … I said what I said. All the time. You don’t turn it off. It doesn’t matter if your partner’s in the cockpit with you. It just is a statement of being.”
