Get A Grip

Conservatives are clutching their pearls over this gay government employee (for no good reason)

In shocking news, conservatives are upset about gay people existing again.

This time, they’re mad at Tyler Cherry, a communications director for the U.S. Department of the Interior. Cherry’s government portrait was reposted by popular right-wing accounts including The Blaze and Chaya Raichik, the woman behind Libs of TikTok. In the picture, Cherry is rocking a sickening striped jacket, a turtleneck, and some gold hoop earrings.

If that doesn’t sound offensive, it’s because it isn’t. Cherry is a perfectly normal guy working in government who happens to be gay and have *gasp* a fashion sense.

Gays across the internet quickly rallied to Cherry’s side, pointing out how juvenile it is to judge people by their appearances. Seriously, who cares if a random government employee is queer? With all the political problems of modern America, is this worth getting mad at?

There’s also the hypocrisy of it all. Sometimes conservatives look fruity too, like President Eisenhower.

And Raichik should be careful calling out other people’s photos, because gays always come with the receipts.

Then there’s the matter of Cherry’s job. He’s a communications director. Communications. Would we want anyone other than a gay in the position? I think not.

And all joking aside, it’s refreshing to see visibly and proudly queer people like Cherry in positions of power. If it makes right-wingers mad that they can’t stop the flow of progress, all the better.
