It’s June, which means it’s Pride Month. Maybe it’s just us but it seems like there were fewer corporate messages celebrating the occasion this year.
Some organizations may have been concerned by the anti-woke backlashes experienced by companies such as Bud Light. As we reported previously, Target announced it would not be selling its Pride merchandise in all its stores this year.
However, many big names and organizations did mark the start of Pride Month over the weekend. And some messages prompted particular fury from many conservatives. Here are just seven social media postings that prompted thousands of comments.
1. Sesame Street

Sesame Street marked Pride Month with a photo showing stripes of fur in Pride flag colors. An accompanying message said, “Happy #PrideMonth from Sesame Street! Today and every day, we celebrate and uplift the LGBTQIA+ members of our community. Together, let’s build a world where every person and family feels loved and welcomed for who they are. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💗🤎🖤”
Some X users registered their disgust, prompting plenty of clapback from true fans.
Dear bigots: Sesame Street has always been about diversity. This shouldn't surprise you.

2. The National Weather Service
One organization that knows all about rainbows is the National Weather Service. However, its innocuous Pride Month message provoked a stormy response on social media.
“Let us Reflect, Empower and Unite together this #Pride Month as we celebrate the diversity of the NWS family! Their skills and perspectives allow us to meet our mission of protecting a diverse nation.”
How about just sticking to the weather? Instead of pushing liberal propaganda?

3. NASCAR
Given Nascar’s traditional fan base, it’s always heartening to see the racing organization’s annual Pride Month message. It did not disappoint, saying “Happy Pride 🏳️🌈! NASCAR is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community. Follow along as we highlight stories of those who have impacted our sport. #PrideMonth”
It prompted over 3k comments, many from NASCAR fans pledging never to watch again.
There it is…….the post that makes a million people “quit” NASCAR every year for about 2 hours but will still follow every weekend

4. MLB
Like Nascar, Major League Baseball is now a big supporter of Pride Month. To the chagrin of some baseball fans. Its Pride Month message this year simply said, “Baseball is everyone’s game. #PRIDE”
Cue 16,000 comments, many expressing outrage.
What does baseball have to do with the sexual preference of the minority? Why are we celebrating who someone chooses to have sex with? Isn’t that a little weird?

5. Joe Biden
President Joe Biden posted more than one Pride Month message. Both postings had conservatives howling, especially the one highlighting “young trans Americans.”
For generations, LGBTQI+ Americans have summoned the courage to live proudly – even when it meant putting their lives at risk.
— President Biden (@POTUS) June 1, 2024
This Pride Month, we recommit to realizing the promise of America for all, to celebrating LGBTQI+ people, and to taking pride in the example they set. pic.twitter.com/d9cBiGoKCr
To the entire LGBTQI+ community – especially young trans Americans – know that your president and my entire Administration have your back.
— President Biden (@POTUS) June 1, 2024
We see you for who you are: made in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support.
6. Kamala Harris
If conservatives hate a President marking Pride Month, they hate it even more when Vice President Kamala Harris does so. Her Pride Month message prompted over 15k comments.
My message to LGBTQI+ Americans: We see you. We hear you. And we celebrate you.

7. Pete Buttigieg
Let’s end the list with a message from an actual queer person. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg marked Pride Month with postings on Twitter and Instagram. Obviously, some people were unhappy, but many others thanked him.
Happy Pride! Pride month rests on a tradition of both celebration and protest, and above all an insistence on equality, safety, and belonging for all LGBTQ+ Americans.

Pete’s husband, Chasten, also posted a Pride message that was well-liked and is worth reposting.
“Happy #Pride! You’re here. You made it. Or maybe you’re still figuring out how to kick that closet door down. Maybe you’re just trying to keep books on the shelf. Maybe you’re reconciling your faith and politics with the love of your child. Maybe you’re just trying to keep your students alive. Maybe you’re sticking up for your co-workers or your neighbors. Maybe you stood up and ran for school board. Or, maybe, you took a step forward in being authentically you. #Pride calls on all of us to show up as allies in many ways. However you approach your allyship, thanks for being you. Let’s march.”

Lastly, we applaud this viral tweet for highlighting why opposition to Pride Month sometimes stops us from having nice things.
