This morning, someone on Twitter/X claimed that the owner of controversial Liza Minelli-themed news account, LizaOutlives’ own Scott Gorenstein, passed away at 55. Except… this isn’t true. Gorenstein just confirmed on X in reply to the same post that he’s alive and well in spite of what everyone had thought.
For those not in the know, this account has been wildly controversial during its time online. Gorenstein, who formerly worked with Minelli as a self-proclaimed “publicist,” ran the account initially as a joke, talking about all the people (and events) that Minelli has so far outlived.

But then the account evolved into something more—an offbeat news source for all the gay Minnelli stans on X, as it eventually beat outlets like CNN to the punch on live news reporting. Gorenstein has covered events like Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and the appointment of JD Vance as Donald Trump’s VP pick for the 2024 presidential election, using his professional experience as a publicist for Sony Entertainment to get the news before anyone else.
Of course, this account is not without controversy. It’s apparently run against Liza Minnelli’s wishes—she famously said to the New Yorker that she, “[does] not support ‘LizaMinnelliOutlives’ (nor its creator Scott Gorenstein) because it is predicated on the idea that I should not be alive, which I find hurtful and offensive.”
RelatedThe singer also confirmed who she WON’T be voting for in November.
Gorenstein is also being canceled for going after singer Chappell Roan in a very notable post on the account, which itself led to users finding out that the account supports Israel amidst the ongoing attacks on Gaza.
In response to criticism for this, Gorenstein repeatedly asked supporters of Palestine to ‘please unfollow.’
And now, users on X are going after Gorenstein.
