Matt Walsh compares having gay parents to growing up disabled in new clip

“Theocratic fascist” Matt Walsh is once again weighing in on the private lives of LGBTQ+ people. This week, the right-wing pundit went after queer parents, comparing surrogacy to human trafficking and claiming it would be better for a child to be missing a limb than to have gay parents.

In an episode of the Daily Wire’s The Matt Walsh Show titled “The Origins of the Anti-Human Depopulation Agenda,” Walsh dedicated an hour to villainizing and dehumanizing gay parents. Walsh was responding to Fox News commentator Guy Benson’s recent announcement that he and his partner had had a baby through surrogacy.

He kicked things off by characterizing voluntary surrogacy in the most sinister way possible — treating a mutual agreement between adults as somehow inherently predatory. “[They] can contractually require her to kill the child in her womb,” he said. “[They control] what she says about her pregnancy. They control what she buys with the allowance that she’s given.”

From there, Walsh advanced an even more absurd view of surrogacy. “Now, if you hear all of that, how human bodies are rented for money, babies are exchanged as part of contractual agreements, and you think to yourself, ‘Wow, that sounds an awful lot like human trafficking,’” said Walsh, “well, that just means you’re more perceptive than the average moderate conservative who is always on hand to wish a hearty congratulations to gay couples who engage in this trafficking. Because it is indeed human trafficking by definition.”

That does not sound at all like human trafficking, and we’re not the only ones who think so. The Department of Homeland Security, a famously woke agency, defines human trafficking as “the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act.”

The basis for Walsh’s rant against gay parents is the tired ‘nature’ argument — that humans are required to ignore technology when living their lives. “Homosexual unions are sterile by their nature,” he said. “It’s not an exception to the rule when they are. …That is a sign from nature, about as glaring and obvious as signs as you can ever see, that gay couples are not meant to have kids.”

Walsh went on to compare gay parentage with cutting a child’s arm off. “You know, it’s true that some children grow up with one arm or no arms, but that obviously doesn’t make it any more horrific, or any less horrific or barbaric to intentionally chop a child’s arm off,” he said.

“It’s far better for a child to be raised lacking one of his arms than to be raised lacking one of his parents,” he continued. “And that’s why I will never applaud and cheer when we get these birth announcements from gay couples, because I’m more concerned about what the child needs than what those men want.”

There is no evidence that children lacking both a mother and a father are disadvantaged — but there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. A recent study that reviewed research conducted over three decades found that not only was there no disparities between queer and nonqueer families, children in queer families were often better adjusted. The only downside researchers noted was the social stigma directed at queer families, stigma fostered by people like Matt Walsh.
