Fox News host Greg Gutfield recently alleged that actor John Krasinski, of The Office fame, is trans.

The claim came in response to People Magazine declaring Krasinski to be the “sexiest man alive,” to which Gutfield—the self-declared “King of Late Night” in spite of barely anyone knowing his name—said, “it’s great that People has dominated [sic] — or announced — that a trans male can be the sexiest one alive. Krasinski never talks about it, but he’s trans. You know that?”

No evidence was given for the claim, and there has never been a reason to believe this, as Krasinski is quite plainly a cisgender man. Krasinski has two children, neither of whom he gave birth to, and both of which are biologically his.

Even Gutfield’s Fox News colleagues seemed confused by the statement. His cohost Jesse Watters said, “No, I didn’t know that,”

Gutfield replied: “Yes, he’s trans, he’s trans!”

Watters then went on to call for him to take off his shirt, which led to banter over how the way he styles his beard is typical of trans men, with no evidence or rationale given for this. While some commentators are assuming Gutfield’s remarks were made in jest, we’re failing to find the punchline. Unless Gutfield intended the mere mention of transness to be the joke, which would be pretty typical of Fox News in general.

Krasinski has not yet made a public statement on these remarks, and it’s unclear whether he’s even aware of them or not.
