Gloria Calderón Kellett’s Queer, Latine Holiday Special “With Love” is Almost Here

With Love, one of a few queer holiday specials coming this season, has just gotten an official trailer. The Prime Video miniseries stars a largely Latinx cast, focusing on a family gathering around Nochebuena (or Christmas Eve).

According to Prime Video: “With Love is a one-hour romantic dramedy series centered around siblings Lily and Jorge Diaz and their family, tracking their stories over the course of a year through the framework of the most heightened days of the year… the holidays. The Diaz’s will weave in and out of the lives of seemingly unrelated people as they search for love.”

The series is created by Gloria Calderón Kellett (co-showrunner of One Day at a Time), and stars Ugly Betty’s Mark Indelicato as Jorge Jr. and Shadowhunters’ Emeraude Toubia as Lily.

This trailer demonstrates how—in addition to being about family and romance—With Love will also center queer characters in its narrative. Lily and Jorge’s trans non-binary cousin, Sol Perez (Isis King), shows up to the family gathering, and goes onto become a series regular. According to Deadline, they are an “oncology resident who is finally opening themselves up to love with a handsome doctor they work with.”

The trailer also shows Jorge Jr. bringing his boyfriend Henry (Vincent Rodriguez III) to meet his family for the first time. On their walk up to the house, Jorge says of his parents, “They’re ok that I’m down with the D as long as the D is not the devil.” While it is a relief to hear that they are a loving and accepting family, it sounds like this might actually be putting a strain on Jorge’s relationship. Later on in the trailer, Henry tells him, “Sometimes it feels like I’m not only dating you, but your entire family as well.”

All five episodes of With Love will be available for Prime Video streaming on December 17th in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Worldwide availability will follow on February 11th.♦
