Chelsea Handler to Play a High-Powered Lesbian on ‘Will & Grace’

Will & Grace is on a roll. The comedy is currently up for five Emmy nominations, and the upcoming season promises to double down on both laughs and gayness. According to EW, Chelsea is set to play a “high-powered” lesbian on Season 2 of the revival.

The former late-night host will play “a high-powered client of Grace’s (Debra Messing) who starts dating her bitter sister Janet (Mary McCormack).” Handler begins filming today on-set in  Burbank, CA. Chelsea and Mary are best friends IRL, according to their Instagrams together, so their relationship should make for some hilarious chemistry.

Despite taking heat for a questionably homophobic tweet about Senator Lindsey Graham–a crusade that was led by conservatives–Chelsea Handler has been a long-time outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community, often tackling the community’s politicized nature through comedy.

Last year, she penned a love letter to queer people, writing, “Every time the LGBTQ community succeeds, the whole world moves forward. We must always focus on the people who will help move our country forward.” The comedian and activist added, “They are strong, they are fierce, and they are us.”

Season 2 of the Will & Grace revival–which is really Season 10 of the show–returns to NBC Oct. 4 at 9pm with 18 new episodes. The critically acclaimed comedy has already been renewed for a third season.
