TikTok can be a confusing place to find out information about peoples’ private lives. That said, it also frequently comes through with the tea we need…and the receipts. But how can we separate rumor from fact—especially when the rumor feels a lot like wishful thinking?

Such is certainly the case regarding Channing Tatum, Magic Mike hunk and recent ex of Zoe Kravitz. For some reason, people on TikTok are claiming Tatum recently came out as bisexual, and others are claiming that this happened a long time ago and is old news. So what’s the truth? What’s real?

Well, let’s take a look, because there seems to be a lot of misinformation—and a possible Mandela Effect situation—at work here.

Let’s take it back to 2017, a simpler time in media (sort of) when people on Tumblr were discussing Tatum having discussed dating men in an interview. However, that interview is nowhere to be found online, and the OP seems to have since deleted their account…

Around 2019, some folks on the r/MandelaEffect subreddit seemed to think they’d heard about Tatum coming out as bisexual, but again couldn’t find the source of the information.

Most of the commentary around this assumes that people who remember Tatum coming out as bisexual are indulging in a bit of wishful thinking. But there’s still this weird collective (fake?) memory that people have of this coming out story, replete with memories of a “gay-themed photoshoot.” I mean, to me that’s pretty much every photo shoot in history, but I digress.

Are folks perhaps thinking of Tom Hardy, who did in fact speak out about his queerness early on in his career? They’re both muscular white hunks, so it’s possible that folks got their wires crossed here.

But wait…there’s yet another twist. Starting early this year, TikTokers started to talk about Tatum having come out as bisexual…again with no source and no proof.

Once again…girls where is the proof? Nowhere to be found. It would seem that the internet just really wants this man to be bisexual, despite the fact that he has only ever publicly dated women. Having recently split from Zoe Kravitz, Tatum appears to be in a happy relationship with Australian model Inka Williams.

But you know, hope springs eternal! Can’t wait for this rumor to return in precisely 4.5 years.
