Baddie

Disney gays rejoice, Angelina Jolie confirms ‘Maleficent 3’

Everyone loves to love a baddie, and Disney villain Maleficent is definitely beloved. And thanks to Angelina Jolie, Disney gays will have another chance to see the magical villain on-screen.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the Oscar winner chatted about all things punk, her new fashion collective Atelier Jolie, doting on her kids, and Maleficent 3. Jolie confirmed that the titular villain would come back for a threequel.

The first film followed Jolie as Maleficent, depicting a more empathetic look at the popular Disney villain. Fellow cast mates Elle Fanning and Sam Riley, who play Disney princess Aurora (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty) and the shape-shifting Rival respectively have not been confirmed to return for the third film.

And while Jolie will be back, her interview seemingly hinted at her departure from Hollywood altogether.

As the daughter of actors Marcheline Bertrand and Jon Voight, Jolie and her brother James Haven grew up in the glitz and glamor of Hollywood. However, in her interview with The Wall Street Journal, Jolie condemned the entertainment institution.

“I grew up in quite a shallow place,” Jolie said. “Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.”

She even went as far as disclosing that her acting career wouldn’t exist today due to the need to share so much of your private life with the public.

“I wouldn’t be an actress today,” Jolie added. “When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.”

Jolie is one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and one of the most critically acclaimed, winning the coveted Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted. But her private life became pretty personal.

From her cancer prevention treatment, to her controversial marriages to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt, to her strained relationship with her father, Jolie’s life has been tabloid fodder for years. But so has her humanitarian work and her influence on the fashion and film industries.

Before she leaves Hollywood behind completely, Jolie has a few more films up her sleeve aside from Maleficent 3. She’s expected to play Master Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 4 and the title role in Maria, the biopic of opera singer Maria Callas.

While this interview gave the world so much more of Jolie, the actress is taking back her life in the spotlight and controlling the narrative, something Maleficent would definitely do.
