Jonathan Bailey’s nerdy new look for Jurassic World has the gays going feral

After two trilogies, the Jurassic Park franchise might seem played out. But new photos of Jonathan Bailey in the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth have convinced the gays that the series’ next entry is well worth watching.

Bailey stars in Rebirth as Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist on a mission to collect dinosaur DNA to create a life-saving drug. That academic description comes with a fresh look to match: wire-rimmed glasses, a scruffy beard, and an adorably dorky vest. Needless to say, Bailey’s fans are obsessed.

The film’s director Gareth Edwards dished on Bailey’s character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (which is also the source of the exclusive new images).

“He’s out of his depth in terms of the military element of the mission,” Edwards said, a contrast to the movie’s other two leads, Scarlett Johansson as “ex-CIA type” Zora Bennett and Mahershala Ali as ship captain Duncan Kincaid. “[Loomis is] very comfortable on digs and expeditions but not the life-and-death risks that Kincaid and Zora are getting into,” Edwards explained.

“It’s that kind of triangle between three different overlapping characters,” he continued. “There’s a lot of fun between the three of them that really popped out to me. It’s less of a love triangle and much more of a competitive ‘who’s the alpha in the group?’ kind of way.”

This is the third time Bailey’s donned glasses for a role, after playing the adorable Skippy in Fellow Travelers and a much-crushed-on academic in Heartstopper. It all goes to show that bespectacled Jonny is the best Jonny.

Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2, 2025.
