Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is currently trailing Democratic challenger Eileen Laubacher in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District, with votes still being counted in what Alex Bollinger reported for LGBTQ Nation. Boebert holds 47.73% of the vote to Laubacher’s 49.15%, with Libertarian candidate Douglas Mangeris at 3.12%. The race remains close enough that the outcome is not yet certain.
The reelection challenge marks a striking reversal for Boebert, who was first elected in 2020 and narrowly reelected in 2022 in Colorado’s Third Congressional District. Seeking safer political ground, she switched to the Fourth District—a deeply conservative area that backed Donald Trump over Kamala Harris by 18 points in 2024 and where Boebert won by nearly 12 points just two years ago.
During her time in Congress, Boebert has made opposition to LGBTQ+ rights a defining legislative focus, introducing numerous anti-LGBTQ+ riders to appropriations bills. These measures have included attempts to ban transgender people from military service, restrict LGBTQ+ social media content, and reduce the salary of a transgender federal official to $1, which she accompanied with dehumanizing rhetoric.
