Katseye is officially bringing queer representation to the world of girl groups, thanks to member Lara Rajagopalan casually coming out to their fans this week.

On Weverse, a platform for artists to communicate with their fans, Rajagopalan shared that she’s known she was queer since childhood. “I knew i was half fruitcake when i was like 8 so i really was wanting everybody,” she wrote. “Honestly probably before 8.”

“Isn’t half fruitcake such a good way to explain it without saying it,” she added.

Naturally, the news quickly spread across the internet, with Katseye fans celebrating Rajagopalan’s coming out. Some folks, however, took issue with her use of the phrase “half fruitcake,” wondering why she wouldn’t use a term like bisexual or pansexual and suggesting she was contributing to bi erasure.

Rajagopalan returned to Weverse to explain herself, writing, “Also LOLLL the reason why i dont label myself is bc im not just into men n women, i like anyone im open to anyone. ENOUGH!”

“Is there [even] a label for that,” she wondered in another message. “Im not sure.”

Of course, Rajagopalan is entitled to use whatever label (or non-label) feels correct for her. No matter how she identifies, the rest of the fruitcake community is happy to welcome her.

Rajagopalan’s fellow Katseye member Manon Bannerman responded to her coming out on Weverse with a message of her own, suggesting that her sexuality was an open secret among the group: “”Congratulations Lara i totally had NO idea 😝❤️🏳️‍🌈😘,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Katseye fans across the internet reacted to the news, applauding the queer representation in their favorite girl group — and praying for a chance with Rajagopalan, now that they know she’s open to dating folks of all genders.
