Gaga for Gaga

Lady Gaga’s appearance in Fortnite has gay icons picking up the game

Lady Gaga and Kesha just collabed, but not in the way you might expect. There’s no duet out now on streaming, no cameos in one another’s music videos, and not even a brand partnership. Instead, Kesha proved she’s a diehard “Little Monster” by donning Gaga’s skin and diving into Fortnite.

Kesha took to X, formerly Twitter, to share her experience playing Fortnite as Gaga — her first ever time playing a video game, she said. She was inspired to play by Gaga’s new collab with Fortnite, which lets players appear as Gaga in looks from the Chromatica era and perform a selection of her songs within the game.

Kesha started by asking her fans how to access the game in the first place: “How do I get Fortnite,” she wrote on X on Wednesday in anticipation of the Gaga-inspired content.

By Thursday, she’d figured it out. “Never played a video game before in my life but readyyyyy,” Kesha wrote, sharing a screenshot of her using the new Gaga skin. She also revealed her username — keshaishot — which some fans used to play alongside her.

Kesha went on to share some other key moments from her Fortnite experience, like dropping in to the map — which several fans noticed was hardly new behavior for Gaga.

Once she was in the game, Kesha didn’t seem interested in hiding or fighting other players. Instead, she contemplated setting up an in-game music studio. Finally, Fornite’s Battle Royale structure caught up with her when another player eliminated Kesha from the game.

Kesha wasn’t the only celebrity to pick up Fortnite thanks to Gaga’s collab. Doja Cat also got in on the action, streaming her reaction to the new Fortnite content. She wanted to buy the ability to perform Gaga’s “Rain On Me” dance, but found she didn’t have the in-game funds to make the purchase.

Meanwhile, the rest of the internet was having a field day playing as Gaga. Fortnite no doubt got an influx of new gay players who wanted to honor their favorite diva, but the game’s combat elements may not be to everyone’s taste.

Kesha’s interest in the game also had fans hoping she’d be the next to get the Fortnite treatment. Let’s hope Epic Games is taking notes.
