Iconic “WAP” and “Thot Shit” rapper Megan Thee Stallion says that acknowledging and fighting homophobia in the rap scene is long overdue.

​​”It is about time,” she told PEOPLE in a recent interview. “Representation is important, and it is really crucial for us all to have compassion and acceptance of every human.”

Megan’s comments reflect a new era in the hip hop community, one where sexuality isn’t a boundary to success. Openly gay rapper Lil Nas X is topping charts and making BET history, while rapper DaBaby’s recent homophobic comments have been disastrous for his career. That’s a music industry we can all take pride in!

Megan may be queer herself, having told British Vogue she’s “kissed a few girls before.”

“We not scared of the ladies. It’s all love,” she said. ”In real life, I’m really about what I be talking. Men are free to do what they want to do, date whoever they want to date and women should have the same options, without judgment.”

Though she hasn’t boxed herself into any labels, Megan is still a clear advocate for the queer community and all-around icon. Because if you’re not fighting homophobia, is it really a hot girl summer?
