Megan Thee Stallion said she’s asexual in a new song, but it’s not what you think

No, Megan Thee Stallion didn’t just come out as asexual — but based on her new album, no one would blame you for thinking she had.

On the track “Bigger In Texas,” the first song on Megan’s latest album Megan: Act II, she raps that she’s “self-made, asexual, and […] always on point like a decimal.”

At first glance, the line does read like a coming-out post, but Megan is actually giving the world a refresher on biology. Asexuality has two meanings: one, the queer identity for folks who don’t experience sexual attraction; and two, the mode of reproduction for organisms that produce offspring entirely on their own, no mate or sexual activity required. Examples of asexually reproducing organisms include bacteria, some species of shark, starfish, and — apparently — Megan Thee Stallion.

Indeed, Megan’s boast that she’s “self-made, asexual” is using the two terms as synonyms. She’s saying she made herself what she is today, no assistance required, not that she’s asexual in the queer sense — rather, she’s openly bisexual and often speaks to sex in her lyrics. (Even just a few lines before her “asexual” bar in “Bigger In Texas,” Megan says she can “slide down on the dick like new sheets.”)

But Megan’s intentions for the line haven’t stopped ace folks from claiming it as representation, if only as a joke.

Those confused about the line’s scientific origins are just as amusing, including one viral interaction where a user said that Megan was asexual “like a bird.” So close, diva.
