Patrick Mahomes’ reference to Taylor Swift’s “wife” has fans reeling

Though Taylor Swift has famously been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for more than a year now, a different member of the team just said that Swift has a wife at a press conference.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was discussing Swift’s impact on the team over the past year at a press conference when he had an apparent Freudian slip.

“Taylor being at all the games has been awesome,” Mahomes began. “It’s been awesome to showcase her bringing light to the sport that I love and getting little girls like my daughter interested in watching the game.

“I think I just know Taylor better now, and I think I’ve built a great friendship with her and her wife,” he added.

Record scratch — play that back. Taylor and her what now? Unless Mahomes knows something we don’t, Swift has never even come out, let alone get married to a woman.

Mahomes quickly corrected himself: “My wife and Taylor have built a friendship as well,” he said. “So it was cool to see how football can bring people together from every aspect of life.”

Though Mahomes likely just tripped over his words, it was enough to get the Swifties’ attention, particularly that of the “Gaylors,” aka fans who believe Swift had a secret relationship with model Karlie Kloss.

Meanwhile, Swift’s actual partner Kelce is making headlines himself for all the wrong reasons. Kelce said it was “awesome” that Donald Trump planned to attend the Super Bowl this Sunday.

“It’s a great honor, I think, you know, no matter who the president is. I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool.”

That’s all in spite of Trump’s repeated negative actions against Kelce’s girlfriend Swift, including spreading AI-generated images of Swift to support his presidential campaign and even posting the phrase “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” to Truth Social. Needless to say, Swifties aren’t happy with Kelce — though if Swift (who famously endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election) will respond to his comments remains to be seen.
