The evidence seemed damning: former Disney Channel actors Karan Brar and Josie Totah, who starred together on the 2010s sitcom Jessie, had to be in a relationship. Totah posted a video to TikTok where Brar came up behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and planted a kiss on her lips.
The internet was immediately obsessed, assuming that the two were now a queer Disney power couple. “RAVI AND STUART??? OH MY GODDDDD IM SO HAPPY FOR THEM IM GAGGGGGED,” reads one viral post.

But the lovefest was short-lived. First, Totah deleted the video from her TikTok — suspicious. Then she returned to the app with an update: through laughter, she declared, “It was a joke!” over and over.
She explained further in the video’s caption, writing, “WE ARE TWO PLATONIC BEST FRIENDS WHO DANCED A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN.”
Naturally, the gay internet was bummed. “Well you can’t be joking like that cause now I’m disappointed,” reads one comment on the TikTok.
“Nah the kiss looked so real😭,” lamented another.
So no, the Totah and Brar aren’t dating, but they’re still a fabulous queer duo forged in the fires of Disney Channel. Totah came out as trans in 2018, while Brar came out as bisexual in 2023. The two may not be romantically involved — despite getting fans’ hopes up — but seeing their friendship is (almost) just as exciting.
