Racism strikes yet again in the Drag Race fandom

Drag Race star Le Fil handles everything with style — even when it comes to addressing racist comments in the fanbase. Responding to a fan who mistook him for another Asian drag queen, Le Fil clapped back with a song.

Le Fil, star of Drag Race UK season 4 and Canada Vs. The World season 2, took to TikTok on Monday to call out a racist comment.

“I thought its Yuhua Hamasaki,” the commenter replied to Le Fil’s recent video. Literally the only connection Yuhua Hamasaki (who is American and competed in season 10 of Drag Race) has to the British queen is the fact that they are both Asian.

Although clearly not amused, Le Fil channeled his frustration into song. “It’s giving racism, it’s giving audacity, cause you’re so brazen that you’d say that to me,” he sang in a response video posted to his socials on Monday.

“You’d be calling me Yuhua on the first comment, well maybe baby, you are just a little bit racist.”

Replying to @🍉🍉🍉 The sheer cheek and the nerve to think that’s an appropriate comment to write on an artist’s post is astounding 😂😭 *casual racism enters the chat* #lefil #yuhuahamasaki #dragrace #dragraceuk #rupaulsdragrace

“Just for the record. The sheer cheek and the nerve to think that’s ever an appropriate first comment to write on an artist’s post is astounding,” Le Fil added in the video caption. “*casual racism enters the chat*”

Fortunately, the real fans had Le Fil’s back in the comments. “Both incredible underappreciated icons,” one fan replied along with a heart emoji.

“I think the person actually meant to say you look like THE ROBBED QUEEN of Canada vs the World Season 2,” wrote another, referencing Le Fil’s elimination in the second episode of the international competition series.

This commenter painted an especially vivid picture: “If it’s any consolation they’re probably sitting alone in their mum’s basement spending all their time on screen and probably peeing in a tin.”

In the original video where Le Fil encountered the heinous comment, he was celebrating his work on the afterparty for the premiere of the film Better Man.

“As an artist and maker at heart, I love working on all aspects of pop cultural events, whether it’s in front of the camera, behind the scenes, music, acting, costumes, etc. It keeps me appreciating all aspects and facets of showbiz from the lighting to the set makers, so it was fab to work on dressing the visual space for this,” he wrote in the caption. “Keeping fingers in many pies.”
