The beauty space is entirely oversaturated at this point, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. As some celebrity beauty brands—like Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Lady Gaga’s Haus Labs—prepare for expansion, others are taking a different approach by focusing on one specific hero product. As much as I hate to give Hailey Bieber credit for anything, you have to admit she did something with Rhode’s lip-forward line. And now, perfect angel, chart-topping icon and One of Them Days star SZA is entering the beauty space with her own lip solution. All we can say is, the gays have been waiting for this.
Not Beauty is starting off strong but small, with a line of three lip glosses promised to outlast and outshine every last competitor out there, including that ridiculously overpriced Summer Fridays lip balm. But they’re not for sale yet—SZA is planning to unveil her creations during her and Kendrick Lamar’s Grand National Tour, which kicks off in Minneapolis this Saturday.
RelatedThe live-action version of Toph will reportedly be “slightly more feminine” and “humanizing,” a change that fans can’t get behind.
Culture, unfiltered
Our newsletter will bring you the pulse of queer culture, from the tastemakers to the groundbreakers.
So far, the vibes are very earthy, very glamping, very Lana, and very SZA. We’re given the intoxicating site of the icon herself in full lumberjane mode, surrounded by glistening wet woods and presenting us with Not Beauty’s forest-inspired wood packaging. It’s an exciting move that could spell a new trend in the beauty space, moving away from the “clean” minimalist aesthetic to embrace something more textured and exciting. And if we know anything about SZA, it’s that she’s one of our most exciting artists working right now. From her Lana sound to her foray into acting to her incredible Super Bowl Halftime performance alongside Lamar, she’s making 2025 her year, and she’s not through with us yet.
Fans were thrilled at the news after SZA posted the promo to X and Instagram. “ugh okay fine I’ll wear makeup now,” one commenter wrote. “the way the lipgloss matches ur crocs cmon branding,” another poster stated. Another simply wrote “Mother Nature,” which…well, yes!
Suffice it to say these long-wearing glosses are going to be beyond sold out when they become available online.
