Missing You stars Rosalind Eleazar as Kat Donovan, a detective who specializes in missing persons. The action kicks off when her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters) apparently ghosts her, vanishing along with all of his belongings from their shared apartment. In fact, he has vanished so completely that his presence has been scrubbed from the internet—mostly scrubbed, it turns out.
11 years later, Kat finally attempts to move on by downloading a dating app. Who does she find but her long lost fiancé.
This revelation leads to the discovery of many other strange disappearances, and it may even link all the way back to the unsolved murder of Kat’s father.
One scene in the trailer introduces Brendan, a local teenager whose mother has gone missing. “She said she was going on a trip with her boyfriend. This is the guy she went away with,” he says, showing her a picture of Josh. Later, Brendan is seen being beaten up and dragged into the back of a van.
As a conspiracy unfolds, Kat’s boss, Ellis Stagger (Armitage), warns her of the serious repercussions looming on the horizon. “If you carry on like this, you’re going to ruin your whole career,” he says. “I’m not asking you—I’m telling you. You’re out.”
The trailer also gives a brief glimpse of Malone, who plays Aqua, one of Kat’s confidants. In one scene, she seems to be breaking down in an interrogation room. Later, she fends off an attack from an intruder by brandishing a kitchen knife.
To whet our appetite for the twists in store, the trailer concludes ominously: “I don’t know what kind of truth you’re gonna find out there but I don’t think you’re gonna like it.”
Missing You will be available to stream on Netflix January 1.
