Move over twinks. Everyone’s watching “demure” porn this year

With the year coming to a close, it is time once again for Pornhub to let us know what the world is yanking it to. This year’s porn viewing statistics offered some repeat trends along with a few surprises—most notably, a rise in searches for what users are calling “demure porn.”

Pornhub’s 2024 Year in Review, like the year-end wraps by Spotify, collates global search and viewing data over the past twelve months. Along with general trends, Pornhub’s statisticians compare the data to previous years, revealing which search terms, categories and performers have changed in popularity.

Over on PornhubGay, the most searched-for term was “twink” for yet another year. This was followed closely by searches for “anime” and “pinoy” (which refers to Filipino men).

Although the top spots changed little from previous years, some terms did receive a big spike. Searches for “femboy” porn rose a staggering 19 points, and “ftm” saw a 9 point increase.

The report also revealed the most popular queer performers for the year. Gay porn performers Malik Delgaty, Tyler Wu, Hunnypaint, Cade Maddox and Rhyheim Shabazz took the top five spots. The most searched for trans performers were PuppygiriXO, Emma Rose, Daniela Chanel, nbnabunny, and Vicats.

One of the more puzzling changes this year was the search for “demure” porn, with the term experiencing a 133% rise. The word “demure” references the wildly popular TikTok video by trans creator Jools Lebron. But how exactly does that translate to porn?

Related search terms paint something of a picture. Other spiking search terms included “mindful pleasure/sex/JOI” (jack-off instructions), “modesty,” “authentic/respectful sex,” and “ethical porn.”

According to Dr Laurie Betito, director of Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center, “It seems people may be pining for a simpler time – looking for things that are less complicated and maybe seeking out more meaningful experiences.”

“With the increased production of ethical and amateur porn, it seems that people want something more real!” Dakota Ramppen, educator and contributor at the Sexual Wellness Center, added.

“As a society, we’re moving away from the original performative nature of adult entertainment. Our need to witness comfort and chemistry while exploring the spiciest of desires is taking precedent over what we’re used to seeing.”
