The Nielsen ratings have spoken and, in the month of March, Rachel Maddow came out as a top on top.

The Rachel Maddow Show had its best month ever, averaging 3.058 million viewers, besting conservative talking head Sean Hannity’s nightly musings on Fox, which somehow brings in 3.00 million in the same 9 p.m. slot.

Nielsen’s report shows that Maddow is gaining in the 25-54 demographic with about 671,000 viewers in that age range, vs. Hannity‘s 616,000. And to continue with the theory that gays rule, Anderson Cooper comes in third with an average of 1.125 million viewers and 382,000, respectively.

Sadly, Fox News is somehow averaging more primetime viewers overall (2.479 million) than MSNBC (1.859 million) and CNN (985,000).

But back to Maddow, who is the undisputed star of MSNBC and has also brought in more advertising to the network than ever. In 2017, her show became the first ever most-watched cable news program in her time slot at MSNBC, and also one of the top 20 shows watched on all cable, putting her amidst popular sitcoms like Will & Grace and Big Bang Theory.

It’s worth noting that one of America’s biggest television stars and trusted sources is an out lesbian. She gets more viewers than Ellen DeGeneres does with her syndicated daytime show (2.2 million) and, like DeGeneres, peppers her show with LGBTQ people and stories amongst a greater breadth of public interest stories.
