Tia Carrere, co-star of Lilo and Stitch, just revealed that her son is trans

Lilo & Stitch star Tia Carrere just revealed that her son is trans – and we’re loving how supportive she is.

“He doesn’t love the spotlight,” Carrere said, referring to her son Jude in an interview with People. “He’s more introverted, so he definitely won’t go into acting or singing like I did. But he’s a great artist. I don’t know what he’ll do! Maybe become a doctor or work with animals. He’s working with animals right now.”

“He’s very matter-of-fact. He knows who he is, and he’s very happy,” she continued, talking about her pride in him. “He’s such a sweetheart; he’s like the therapist to all the other kids. When his friends go out drinking or partying too hard, he’s always the designated driver, that kind of caring friend you can always lean on.”

Carrere gained fame for playing Lilo’s sister, Nani, in the hit animated film. She made an appearance in the 2025 live-action remake of the film playing Mrs. Kekoa, a social worker checking in on Nani and Lilo.

The remake, which has been criticized for erasing the Pleakley’s queer-coded story in the original film, nevertheless opened as the number one film on Memorial Day Weekend.
