Common Connections

What do ‘Drag Race,’ anime, and pro wrestling fans have in common?

RuPaul’s Drag Race, anime, and professional wrestling have never been been more aligned and this viral TikTok proves.

Fandoms are stronger than ever. Whether you’re repping your favorite artist to being a diehard fan of a TV show, to stan anything is to be alive in our society. But some of these fandoms overlap more than you think.

TikToker 2dee (@twoxdee) thinks three fandoms have more in common than what meets the eye. Those fandoms being lovers of RuPaul’s Drag Race, anime stans, and professional wrestling fans. Still not convince? Well, let’s do a deep into 2dee’s video and their corresponding powerpoint presentation.

First there’s the Drag Race and pro wrestling connection through both communities loving the stunts that both drag and pro wrestling provide. I mean, who doesn’t love a good split or a piledriver?

“Believe it or not, these three fandoms share a lot in common together,” 2dee said. “You may think ‘How is that even f*cking possible?’ Look, with pro wrestling and Drag Race there’s a desperate need for unionization in both of their industries, but also a love for stunts and the drama on screen and off the screen.”

Then there’s the overlap between the Drag Race and anime communities. Drag Race alumni Kim Chi and Rock M. Sakura dazzle fans with their anime-inspired looks. Not to mention, the 1980s anime Robotech features a drag queen named Yellow Dancer.

“With Drag Race and anime, believe it or not, there’s a lot of overlap,” 2dee said, “Currently, right now, there’s a lot of contestants on this current season of Drag Race. A lot of them are nerds.”

@2dee then showed on their powerpoint presentation how pro wrestling and anime fans both share an obvious love “a big fight with lore to back it up” and “obsessed with power ranking/scaling for some reason.”

“And then, with pro wrestling and anime, the writing is on the wall,” @2dee said. “The call is coming from inside the house.”

Ok, so what do all three fandoms have in common? Well, it’s simple, fighting games.

2dee’s theory is that fighting video games, like Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and more, are what connect all three fandoms. Many commenters under 2dee’s TikTok vid for quick to support their theory. One TikToker called it “the biggest breakthrough since Oppenheimer” and another noted that they “didn’t need a single second of explanation” beyond a quick look at the diagram because it made sense.

“This is what brings the world together and we achieve world piece, if we accept that we all have this in common,” 2dee said.
