A new indie horror film turns toxic gay exes into literal end-of-the-world monsters

Chris Salvatore is stepping into a sinister new role in the upcoming apocalyptic horror film Scorch Marks, as the Editors reported for Queerty. The movie follows a survivor named Beckett who wakes up in a shattered, post-apocalyptic landscape, only to find himself trapped with the ghostly presence of his abusive ex-boyfriend, Joel, played by Salvatore.

The psychological thriller, written and directed by Brendan Haley, uses the end of the world to explore the lingering trauma of toxic relationships. While dealing with his phantom ex, Beckett also faces an impending cosmic threat from a chaos monster played by Dragula star Vander Von Odd. Haley noted that the destructive setting serves as a metaphor for the heteronormative standards that can deeply damage early queer partnerships.

The film is set to premiere on the streaming platform Dekkoo this October, arriving just in time for the Halloween season with a unique blend of horror and queer perspectives.
